Wemaweh: day of discovery staff retreat with the best co-workers ever
All work and no play? Not this crew. At the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce, we’re big believers in working hard and playing hard. Proof positive is the “Day of Discovery” all-day staff retreat we had this past Friday.
We journeyed to Highlands Castle in Bolton Landing and were greeted by an unparalleled, breathtaking view of Lake George. We learned about self, each other and our team as we planned for the future.
I am an ENFJ. Are you familiar with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment? It’s a psychometric questionnaire designed to measure how differently people gain energy, take in information, make decisions and sense of the world. I LOVE this tool. It is so helpful in understanding why and how people think and operate the way they do. (Ah ha… everyone different from you is not an idiot!)
As an ENFJ, I’m in a category with only 2% of the world (my co-worker John being one of them – go figure!) Myers-Briggs defines me as an individual who “radiates sympathy and fellowship”. I place “high value on harmonious human contacts”. Much of my pleasure and satisfaction come from “the warmth of feeling of people around me” and I have a “gift of expression.” Or… as my brother and sister would tell you, I’m a bodini. Yes, it’s a made-up family word to bring definition to who I am. What do you expect when you fall into a category with only 2% of your global friends?
A fave exercise was standing, one at a time with our backs to each other while we shared one-word descriptors about each other. I’m being braggadocious when I tell you I nailed the descriptor for each co-worker they chose for themselves. And yes, we now all have nicknames (hey, I couldn’t stand alone with “Boots“).
Our fearless leader Peter (aka “P-Dawg”) is enterprising …steadfastly leading our crew. Patti (aka “Cakes”) is organized …thank heavens she’s onboard! Carrie (aka “Slash”) is devoted …and has her degree in GSD (gets ‘stuff’ done). John (my WonderTwin) is enthusiastic …and if you need a second opinion, check out any episode of “Marcantonio’s Member Mania”
The descriptor my fellow teammates chose for me is “expressive“. And to demonstrate, allow me to give you just a glimpse with this YouTube video I created using our theme song as a backdrop… Wemaweh and Our Day of Discovery Video
I continue to love my job.
Glad you’re loving it so much! That castle looks awesome!! I’ve never heard of that!? And, yeah, the 2% explains a lot… 😉 Love you, Bodini!!
I know… it’s a hidden treasure, for sure. What a spectacular place! And yeah, I thought the 2% explained a lot, too. lol! Love you, Sissy! xo
That’s so interesting, Donna! I have come up, depending upon the particular MBTI assessment, an INFJ (an I a few points shy of extraverted) or an ENFJ. Although, I doubt this is surprising to you at all…
make that I am a few points shy of extraverted 😉
Ah, yes… no wonder I like you so much, Tressa! You are a treasure. =)
